As not to offend listeners and readers, another socially sensitive phrase/term has reared its head. Local city, state and government employees, can not say "Happy Easter" or "Merry Christmas" or anything that might offend to one receiving the greeting. Are we that sensitive and easily offended as a society? I guess many are still stuck on the separation of "Church and State" issues. Wow...are people that afraid, embarrassed by or made to feel uncomfortable by the use of the words: Christmas, Easter or Jesus? It seems that non specifics are fine and generalities are OK. People seem to squirm at the name of Jesus when its mentioned in prayer or the words Holy Bible. It gets my attention when someone has to say out load when they hear the name God or Jesus.."that's a name I will never utter".
How interesting that we ( as a society) will omit certain words and phrases that make us feel uncomfortable. Funny, I don't feel oppressed when I hear the word Qur'an or Allah. Certain references to religions, religious denominations and other religious phrases that don't mention the name of Jesus or God seem to be fine and non threatening to the majority. For those whom don't believe in God or Jesus, why do you feel threatened or feel uneasy at the mention of those names? Many are offended to the point of getting confrontational towards Christians but intimated by the presence of Muslims.
We have X'ed Christ out of Christmas, we want to remove "In God We Trust" off of our currency, Prayer was removed from our schools years ago (look at what that got us) and the Word Easter is slipping into obscurity. I was amazed to hear of the many different Chaplains the military has, one to cover what ever you believe and for the faiths missed that have worship services for "all others" I guess Easter...oops, I mean spring celebrations is a great time for the retailers because they don't give a hoot about the words Easter, spring, Christmas or Jesus, just as long as you make your way to their stores and buy what they are selling and we do, these celebrations is where they make their money.
So, as you celebrate this Spring Celebration, I hope that you as believers don't omit Jesus, Resurrection and Salvation from your vocabulary.
